Which is a very good place to start, but also exactly where we are! Our farming story begins now, we have not planted one seed, hoed a row or started any irrigation, we have simply invested nearly all of our money into a piece of land in South Jersey. Let the adventure begin!

Several years ago my husband and I saw a farm a few minutes from our current home and started pursuing the purchase, which never worked out. For years we pursued and it did not happen. The property was too expensive and farms can be difficult to get a loan for, especially since there is no residence on the property currently. We would go and drive the land and dream of the future. We currently have a full time careers, I work as a nurse practitioner and my husband an accountant, we do not know anything regarding farm or agriculture. Last summer, 2021, the farm sold. I started looking elsewhere for a different piece of property, but as they say, location location location. So, my ever persistent husband started his pursuit of the farm again with the current owner, who did not have the farm up for sale. The negotiations began and the conversations became less dreams and more reality. From Sumer 2021 to December 2021, several life changing events happened in my in-laws life and they decided to purchase the property with us, and now it is a family farm, without a farmer in the family!

So now what? Currently our plans include….

1. Leasing the land to a local farmer to utilize the property.
2. Brainstorming our own ideas of what we would like to grow.
3. Developing our plans to build our home.

We are excited for the future, but I can’t help acknowledge the financial leap we are taking to go after this, build our home and create something special for our family and community. My hope is that this blog is a space to share our story, our experiences, inspire someone else, and hopefully one day look back on and remember where we started as a family.
