Millings, millings and more millings. It’s funny being married to someone who is the opposite of myself, Mark will talk about things or come up with ideas I would have never thought of. The entire main road in front of the farm was being torn up a few weeks ago and re-paved. What do they do with the pieces of the old road? Load them up and take them…somewhere. Over time loads and loads of gravel has been needed at the farm for the driveway and barn, which obviously cost money. But the saying, “one mans trash is another mans treasure” has never been more true than the story of our driveway.
When he saw the roadwork project starting in front of the farm, my husband went up to them and asked them for the millings. And after a few conversations, they agreed to unload all the pieces of the old road on the Jersey Acres Farm driveway, for free! So truckloads and truckloads were dumped alllll along the driveway! He put my recycling efforts to shame. I would have never thought of a way to re-use an entire road!

After all the piles were on the driveway, Mark used the tractor to move the millings and smooth out the piles. He hired someone to come help move the job along and someone to roll the driveway which made big difference. Jersey Acres Farm now has a wonderful, recycled, new driveway out of millings from the very road in front of the farm! So proud of my husband for finding a way and just asking, you never know!
